Northwest University School of Public Management was emerged as one of Chinese earliest pioneers of teaching and researching on Public Administration in 1980s. Since the establishment of the School in July 2000, five departments as Public Administration, Social Welfare, Public Policy and Administration, Public Human Resources Management, and Public Information and Record Management, have been successively founded. Based on the distinguished conception of teaching and learning as well as the philosophy of research and innovation, Northwest University School of Public Management concentrates on the development of construction of subjects and departments, and offers eight undergraduate majors including two 1st Grade Major, as Public Administration, Management Science and Engineering; six 2nd Grade Major , as Politics, Politics with International Studies, Higher Education, Applied Psychology, Library Science, and Public Economics; one authorized Professional Master’s Degree Program as Master of Public Administration (MPA). Updated until July 2010, Northwest University School of Public Management has 893 undergraduate students and 396 graduate students.
Northwest University School of Public Management has 76 faculty members, including 59 teachers, 32 professors and associate professors, and 30 Doctors and PhD candidates. The School invites Jianlun Wang, the former Vice-Minister of Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China, the Associate Director of CPPCC Social and Legal Committee, the President of China Social Insurance Association, as the School’s Honorary Principal; invites more than 20 international and national famous experts as the School’s Adjunct Professors, to name a few, James D. Nowlan, David H. Rosenbloom, Shuzhang Xia, GongchengZheng, Liyan Zhu, Haijiao Yang, Dasong Deng, Qingyun Chen, Chengfu Zhang, Zhiren Zhou. The human resources have already helped Northwest University School of Public Management to build a distinguished group of teachers and a high-quality rank of researchers.
In the meantime of developing teaching and learning, Northwest University School of Public Management also pays attention on researching, as it has successively established Northwest University Center for Public Administration and Northwest University Academy of Public Administration, which consist of 14 research institutions. The distinguished researches on the principles and practices of Public Administration in China’s Western Regions, which have strengthened the School’s research capability. Moreover, based on Training Center of Public Administration, Northwest University School of Public Management provides high-quality training services for public servants and members of enterprises and institutions.
In recent years, teachers of Northwest University School of Public Management have undertaken several research programs, such as National Natural Science Funds, National Social Science Funds, Key Technology Projects of National Tenth Five-Year Plan, National Soft Science Research Program, Shaanxi Social Science Projects, Key Projects of Shaanxi Education Departments and so forth. In the past five years, teachers of the School have published 50 academic books, over 200 articles on core journals, and over 30 national and provincial research rewards.
Northwest University School of Public Management emphasized on the academic exchanges nationwide and worldwide. The School has established long-term academic exchange channels with lots of famous universities all over the world. Numbers of teachers were once selected to make educational visits to other countries and regions. Furthermore, in the past decade, the School has successfully held several influential international academic conferences, 20 national academic meetings, which are honored with high accomplishments nationwide and overseas.
Nowadays, directed by the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, Northwest University School of Public Management is developing itself by improving the research capability of solving the key problems of economic and social development in China’s Western Regions, and by cultivating human resources for high-quality public administration, aiming to be the first-rank School of Public Management in China’s Western Regions.
